Last week the interns had the pleasure of attending the Speaker’s Holiday Open House, and let me tell you, it was a wonderful event. It is not very often that you get to converse in a large group in the lobby of Queen’s Park, let alone eat wonderful food all in the shadows of the beautiful Christmas trees that are setup for this festive season. The Speaker went around as ‘Speaker Claus’ taking pictures with his guests while bellowing a hearty ‘ho ho ho’ to all of the attendees. It was great to see the partisanship that can sometimes percolate through this building abandoned for cheery conversation and calls of “Merry Christmas” and “Happy Holidays”. The highlight of the event was the invitation to go back to the Speaker’s apartment for more food and holiday beverages, which let me tell you, is a beautiful historic apartment that has housed The Speaker of the Assembly for many years. All in all, it was a wonderful event that truly made it feel like Christmas had arrived to Queen’s Park. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all!
