After month of meetings and interviews, orientation finally came to an end on Friday. It has been really exciting and interesting to meet with so many high level political and commercial figures. Having said that, I think it is fair to say that we are all really excited to begin working for our member’s next week. As of Tuesday I will be working in the office of Steve Clark, Progressive Conservative MPP for Leeds-Grenville. Mr Clark is a newly elected member having only entered the legislature courtesy of a by-election this spring. I am Mr Clark’s first ever intern and I look forward to setting a high standard in his office! Mr Clark’s current portfolio relates to democratic reform in Ontario. Examining and making proposals for democratic reform in Ontario will be fascinating: my work will largely centre on researching the potential for a greater use of referenda and citizen lead initiatives in the province. Measures that shake up the political system in the name of improving accountability, transparency and representation, look set to be assessed. I look forward to beginning this experience and becoming part of Mr Clark’s team.
