We were in for a special meeting when we visited Deborah Caruso, Director of Hansard, Interpretation and Reporting Services. The Hansard offices have been thoughtfully designed to incorporate the old architectural features of the building like exposed brick walls and a glass-enclosed lay-light. Deborah taught us a bit of Hansard history, and she explained that the Ontario legislature has top-notch turnaround time for producing draft transcripts and final Hansard copies within hours of house proceedings. Equally impressive is the ability of translators to listen to debates while identifying which of the assembly’s one-hundred and seven members are speaking and simultaneously typing what is said. Thanks to Deborah for a great visit!
