We also had lunch with Cheryl Fullerton and Victoria Hunt from the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA). We had a spirited discussion about the state of education policy in Ontario while enjoying some excellent food. The interns were surprised to learn about the multitude of issues facing Ontario’s teachers from pensions to class sizes. OECTA does not only represent English Catholic teachers in Ontario, but teachers in general. We spoke about their support for the British Columbia’s teachers strike. Victoria Hunt and Cheryl Fullerton also informed us of the rich history of Catholic schools and their opposition to the amalgamation of Ontario’s school boards. Ultimately, our lunch with OECTA was both educational and engaging event.
