This Monday morning we got up bright and early to meet with Robert Fisher. It was very interesting to have the chance to discuss with such an institution of media! He told us tales from the beginning of his career in Montreal where he covered the FLQ crisis as well as Jean Drapeau’s tenure as mayor. He was able to speak to the evolution of politics as well as the shift in the media that covers it, discuss the issues with infotainment and outline the need to be “not censored, but sensible”. Mr. Fisher was also able to give us an interesting analysis of the difference between working at a public versus private network. An unexpected conversation we explored in depth was the changing role of women at Queen’s Park over the years. He told us of the astonishing realities of the 6 women who were in office when he was exploring the topic for his master’s thesis and the obstacles and successes he has witnessed since then. My even spoke fondly of the program on the CBC later that evening!
