Learning about Legislative Research

Last Friday morning we met with the employees of the Legislative Research Service, who were kind enough to tell us all about their different divisions. We were fascinated to hear about how the LRS differs from the Legislative Library, while existing in the same branch. We learned how the Library and Research Service work together to provide complete information, and how the LRS conducts research to answer questions posed by members, and even assist in drafting committee reports

After a quick introduction, we moved through the staff in small groups, learning about their different and expansive areas of expertise; from health and education, to finance, to law, just to name a few. Given our differing areas of interest, there was something special for everyone in speaking to the different research staff. We are so grateful to the staff for having us, and teaching us about legislative research!
