One particularly great aspect about OLIP is being able to meet with former interns and learning from them about the positions they hold now. This Wednesday we were able to sit down with Mike Smith, an OLIP intern from 2010/2011. Mike works with the Ontario Ministry of Energy as a senior policy advisor, and is currently the acting lead on the Ontario Smart Grid Fund. This program invests in Ontario-based companies to improve the efficiency of Ontario’s electricity system, including initiatives that increase the ability of consumers to control their usage and new beneficial technologies like electric storage. Mike was able to tell us about some of the specific projects that are currently in the works, and his insight into the modernization of the way that electricity is delivered was quite fascinating!
